NURSING

The role of nursing in war, surgery, and hospital and home care is widely documented in The Nursingg Collection, one of the most comprehensive groupings in The Burns Archive. Pediatric and newborn care is particularly represented, with rare images of nineteenth century incubators. Albums kept by nurses of their experiences in hospitals and during wars are a highlight of the collection, most notably albums of American nurses in the Russo-Japanese War, WWI, and the Bellevue Hospital Training School For Male Nurses.
